We have a vegan sub with roasted mushrooms, peppers, avocado, lettuce and tomato salsa with parsley and onion! Wow!!! Lots of amazing stuff in that sandwich. It’s all so fresh and healthy. There’s contrast in that recipe. In every single bite you can feel something new. There’s raw crunchy onion, with fresh sweet tomatoes and beautiful fresh parsley with some sea salt to combine them all in a so called salsa. This is the topping of the fresh avocado with crunchy lettuce and the roasted sweet peppers and mushrooms. So you have hot and cold as well. It all blends in and the taste is divine! Seriously impressive!

Submarine-Style Sandwiches are known by various names. Some of those names include: Submarine, Heros, Hoagie, Grinder, Po’ Boy, Rocket, Torpedo, Dagwood, Hero, Zepplin, and Italian Sandwich.
The origin of the name “submarine sandwich” is believed to have been created on a United States Naval Base in Connecticut. Benedetto Capaldo, a local restaurant owner, would typically receive several hundred orders for these types of sandwiches every day from the sailors on the base during World War II. Capaldo would place various types of vegetables, cheese, and salami on top of a roll that looked like a submarine because it was long and thin. The nickname “sub” was given to these sandwiches by the sailors who enjoyed them every day. Thanks delicioussubs!
- 1 sub bread roll
- 1 sweet pepper
- 1 big mushroom
- ¼ avocado
- 2 leafs of lettuce
- For the tomato salsa
- ¼ tomato
- 10 gr chopped onion
- a pinch of salt
- a bit of fresh parsley
- Cook the peppers and the mushrooms in a very hot pan for 5-6 minutes, seasoned with salt and pepper
- All the other products are added fresh and the salsa is the mix of the chopped tomatoes, onions, parsley and a pinch of salt
It’s a a very nice lunch and definitely a sandwich for a road trip 🙂
