A calorie is a unit of energy. If you eat more calories than you need, your body will store the energy for later in the form of fat. 10. Processed Meats

9. Fried Foods

Fried foods contain fat and fat contains calories, so it should come as no surprise that fried foods are calorie-rich. Fried chicken, pork rinds and french fries are examples of foods full with calories. The chicken tops the list, with   463 calories per 100 g.

8. Cheese

Cheese is an excellent source of calcium. Hard cheeses are rich in calories. The Norwegian Brunost or Gjetost cheese has the most calories at 466 per 100 g, with Parmesan and cheddar following close behind.

7. Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains healthful antioxidants, but it is high in fat and therefore calories. You’ll get 501 calories in a 100 g serving of baking chocolate.

6. Junk Food

Junk food is called “junk food” because it offers empty calories, typically with little nutritional value. Chips contain some nutrients, but they consist almost entirely of fat and starch, so they contain a lot of calories. Junk food averages about 560 calories per 100 grams. It makes sense that nuts and seeds are high in calories, since these foods contain a lot of vegetable oil. Macadamia nuts have 818 calories per 100 g while pecans have 710 calories for the same amount. In addition to calories, seeds and nuts contain healthy oils, minerals and fiber.

2. Vegetable Fats

While vegetable oils and fats do not contain as many calories as most animal products, they still contain more energy than other types of foods. Vegetable shortening, for example, has 884 calories per 100 g. Oils contain the same number of calories as solid fats.

Animal fats top the list of high-calorie foods, though the number of calories varies significantly depending on the source of the fat. The highest calorie food is fish oil, which has 902 calories per 100 g. Cooked bacon has 898 calories per 100 g. Butter has fewer calories, at 717 per 100 g.
