The time for our new Instafoodie has come. This week we are happy to present to you – Hanne Vanmeirhaeghe, 18 years old, from Belgium. Her instagram account is being followed by 16.7k people.

Let us now show you what she had to share with us in a short interview.
Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Okay, so I’m Hanne, I was born and raised in Sint-Martens-Latem, which is close to Ghent, Belgium. I grew up in a very creative family that encouraged me to look beyond the material things in life and because we live in a very natural area with lots of forests and meadows, I got to experience the beauty of nature from a very young age.
I just turned 18, about 2 months ago, and I graduate from high school this week. I am very anxious to leave my whole ‘high school experience’ behind because it was a bit of a rough path for me. I have had a very rough few years both physically (I developed IBS, irritable bowel syndrome which I explain here, along with how it caused me to become a vegan and eventually find the real me: http://www.naturallyhanne.com/?p=343) and mentally.
Because of my IBS I kinda rolled in to a vegan diet and it soon became clear to me that becoming vegan might just have been the best decision I ever made in my life. I feel so much more energized and I feel more at peace with nature.
I have just gotten myself a tattoo, it’s a lotus flower that I designed myself. Lotuses grow through mud and water and bloom at the surface. To me the mud represents the past year, how you can be forced to go to pain and struggle but how, in the end, you’ll always be stronger than before.
In the food I make on instagram I can show who I really am. When decorating my plates, I feel like an artist. Trying new things in the kitchen and making them look pretty is seriously one of my favorite things in the whole wide world.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is simply to have a happy, free, balanced life. I’d love to be able to make what I do now into my job and have the opportunity to travel and share my adventures with my followers. Blogging, travelling, making pretty vegan food, but mostly inspiring others to eat and be healthy and to love themselves – the same way I had to be inspired myself once.
What is your greatest achievement?
Most of my achievements aren’t mindblowingly spectacular. I think that my biggest personal achievement is letting go of all the expectations society has, all the unspoken rules that haunt teenage girls, all the ideas of what a perfect relationship or friendship looks like. The past year, I have come at peace with myself. I have learned to accept myself for who I am and that I don’t have to change for anyone.
What is your inspiration?
I could say I get my inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, et cetera. But I think the real, spiritual inspiration, the inspiration for the love I put in my food, is derived from nature. Because that’s where it all begins – colors, flowers, flavors, everything is made by our dear Mother Nature. I can feel so much joy just being surrounded by nature; by trees, flowers, animals. I think that joy inspires me to put love in what I make, to bring natures beauty to my bowls and plates.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I have absolutely no idea where I’ll be in 5 years. If I think of who I was exactly one year ago and how much has changed in my life since then, I can’t possibly imagine what’ll happen in 5 years. I just hope I’ll still be doing what I love, hopefully as a job, that I’ll be happy and surrounded by loving people and that I’ll have seen the beauty the world has to offer.
What a great interview, a lot of things can happen in the young mind’s head. Hanne seems to be a very ambitious young lady, which we are definitely going to follow. She is a true inspiration.
