A refreshing watermelon salad, with feta and fresh mint

Hello food lovers! Wow… it’s been a long time since our last meeting! We are very sorry about our long pause! We’ve been through a lot of changes in the last month. We had to change our flat. With that, there’s been a lot of running all around London. You know how big it is…. It was an adventure. Getting an internet connection, took us 2 weeks, because there were some problems with our phone line… long story. Now it’s all good, and Top Food Facts is BACK!!!

Today I have for you one very nice cold salad, to freshen up your hot day. It looks strange to many people, but this combination actually works pretty well. You need only three products – watermelon, feta cheese (goat cheese would be nice as well) and fresh mint. Just take a look at this beauty.

Watermelon3There’s no special culinary skills that you need to have in order to prepare this. It’s not time-consuming as well. It goes well with a glass of white wine or ouzo (an anise-flavored aperitif that is widely consumed in Greece and Cyprus).

Watermelons are mostly water — about 92 percent — but this refreshing fruit is soaked with nutrients. Each juicy bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. There’s even a modest amount of potassium. (

And here’s one curious fact about watermelons – The heaviest watermelon weighs 159 kg (350.5 lb) and was grown by Chris Kent (USA) of Sevierville, Tennessee, USA, as verified by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth on 4 October 2013.
